Heating and air conditioning repair
Get help with your system. Tell us what you are noticing and we will talk through the next step. You do not need to know what is wrong before you call.

What repair addresses
Repair service is for a heating or cooling system that is not working the way it should. It may not run at all, or it may run without keeping your home comfortable.
The goal of a repair visit is to find the cause and explain your options in plain terms.
Signs you may need a repair
- Air from the vents feels warm while the air conditioner is on.
- The system will not turn on, or shuts off soon after starting.
- The thermostat calls for cooling or heat and nothing happens.
- New noises such as buzzing, banging, grinding or squealing.
- Water pooling near the indoor unit.
- Ice on the copper lines or the outdoor unit.
- A breaker for the system keeps tripping.
- Some rooms stay much warmer or cooler than others.
Quick checks before you call
These take a minute and sometimes solve the problem.
- Make sure the thermostat is set to Cool or Heat and the setting is below or above the room temperature.
- Replace thermostat batteries if the display is blank or dim.
- Check the breaker panel for a tripped breaker labeled for the air conditioner, furnace or air handler.
- Check the air filter. Replace it if it is clogged.
Safety first. Do not open equipment panels or touch wiring. If you smell gas, leave your home and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. If you smell burning or see smoke, turn the system off at the thermostat.
Helpful to have ready when you contact us
None of this is required. Share what you know and we will ask about the rest.
- What the system is doing, or not doing.
- When the problem started and whether it comes and goes.
- Whether the problem is with cooling, heating or both.
- Any error code or flashing light on the thermostat or equipment.
- Your ZIP code.
- The brand and age of the system, if handy.
Terms you may hear
- Refrigerant
- The fluid that carries heat out of your home. A system that is low on refrigerant usually has a leak.
- Capacitor
- A part that helps the motors in the outdoor unit start. A failed capacitor can leave an air conditioner humming without running.
- Short cycling
- When a system turns on and off much more often than normal.
